Athlete of the Month for February
A Little About Me
I’m a wife and mother to a rambunctious 9-month-old boy. I stay home with my son right now, but I was in commercial real estate marketing before I had him. I’m originally from Greenville, SC and I moved up to this area about 3 years ago, when I got married. I’ve never really considered myself to be athletic. I bounced around from sport to sport as a kid, trying everything once but never finding anything that I really wanted to stick with. As an adult, I’ve always been a “light cardio” kind of girl. So, starting CrossFit was a huge change for me!
How I Found CrossFit
My husband, Ryan, is the one that introduced me to CrossFit. It took him probably 3 years to convince me to even set foot in a CrossFit gym and probably another 6 months, after my first not-so-great experience, to try out Zeal’s CrossFit Lite class. It continued to take his unyielding encouragement to convince me to stick with it and I’m so glad I did. Without him constantly pushing me to be better, I wouldn’t be the person I am today… A stronger, happier version of myself.
Why I CrossFit
I started out doing CrossFit because Ryan loves it so much and I wanted to share that with him. Now, I’m hooked! I love that everything can be scaled and adapted to your specific needs or skill level. A couple years ago, I never would have thought I’d be doing CrossFit most of the way through my pregnancy! My favorite thing about CrossFit, though, would have to be that it is so community-centered. I’m not a big self-motivator, so what gets me in the gym are the people I see and work out with every day. Exercising with friends is a lot more enjoyable than doing it alone!
